Pride Season is a celebration of the wide range of Pride events that take place over the summer (June to September) when 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and allies come together to spotlight the resilience, honour the talent, and recognize the contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. Although special attention is put on the Pride events during the summer months, the events happen all year round in many communities across Canada.

The well-being of people with diverse gender identities can be greatly affected by the characteristics, norms, practices, and spaces of our institutional environments. This can be reflected in the things we see and the actions we take.Everyone can help support the mental health of sexual minorities. To find out more and the tangible actions you can take, check out our tip sheet.

Mental health has recently become more prominent in our day-to-day. However, it is still harder to attain for smaller minority groups and there’s a hesitation to use mental health and 2SLGBTQIA+ in the same sentence. For those in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, finding a mental health service provider can feel daunting but rest assured, we’ve got some tips for you.

If you want to do more life promotion and to help prevent suicide for 2SLGTBQIA+ people in your community, check out this Roots of Hope case study from Stony Plain, AB, where they were identified as a priority population. We’ll be sharing more information about how to become a #RootsOfHope community later this year.

And if you are a health-care worker, community members have shared with us initiatives and approaches to increase health-sector access and improve the service-user experience for 2SLGBTQIA+ emerging adults. Check out their advice on creating safer spaces.
