Transgender Day of Remembrance

November 20, 2022

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20 that honours the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. You can learn more about TDOR from GLAAD: https://www.glaad.org/tdor

Transgender (trans) people face unique stressors, including higher rates of harassment and discrimination, and, as a result, experience poorer mental health outcomes.

Our Transgender People and Suicide fact sheet offers guidance on trans mental wellness at the individual and collective levels. It highlights the importance of supportive relationships, gender affirmation (acceptance of name and pronouns), and help seeking.

Our Rainbow Youth Health Forum report, a co-production with Wisdom2Action, outlines strategies to create safer spaces for trans people in health-care settings.

A series of Leger national surveys conducted during COVID-19 found that 2SLGBTQ+ communities across Canada have been disproportionately impacted by pandemic-related substance use and other mental health issues.

If you are a trans person who needs someone to talk to, please call the Trans Lifeline at 1-877-330-6366. It’s run by and for trans people.
