September 10th will mark World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), a global commitment to raise awareness of suicide and suicidal behaviours and how we can work together to prevent them.
World Suicide Prevention Day is an opportunity for us to share messages of hope, resilience, and light. This day reminds us to reflect of the value of life and how we can support one another as humans, policy makers, researchers, and service providers, etc. This year’s theme of Creating Hope Through Action is a reminder that our actions, no matter how big or small, may provide hope to those who are struggling.
Everyone has a role to play. For some this may be reaching out and supporting someone who may need help, learning about the reasons for suicide and how to prevent them, raising awareness of local resources and support systems, or participating in open discussions on mental health in one’s home, school and place of work. No matter how you plan to recognize this important day, we encourage you to be a part of the conversation and share how you’re joining this collective response.
You can play a big part in helping us spread messages of hope to prevent suicide!
