June 28, 2013 – Government of Alberta Appoints Chief Mental Health Officer

The MHCC congratulates the Province of Alberta on the appointment of a Chief Mental Health Officer. The appointment is in response to the catastrophic flooding that occurred in many communities in southern Alberta. Dr. Michael Trew will report directly to the Minister of Health and will ensure mental health priorities are being addressed to help those in affected communities who may be experiencing emotional or psychological distress. Mental health resources related to disaster recovery are available on the Alberta Health Services website. Albertans experiencing emotional distress, or who are concerned about the emotional well-being of others, are encouraged to contact the Mental Health Help Line toll-free at 1-877-303-2642. Read the Alberta Government’s news release.
