If you are in distress, you can call or text 988 at any time. If it is an emergency, call 9-1-1 or go to your local emergency department.

Neurotransmission is how brain cells, called neurons, communicate with each other. One neuron sends an electrical signal down its length, which causes chemicals called neurotransmitters to be released into the space between neurons (the synapse). These chemicals pass the message to the next neuron by attaching to special spots (receptors) on its surface. This process helps control everything we do, from moving to thinking and feeling.
