About the Implementation Toolkit

Advancing Schizophrenia Care through the Schizophrenia Quality Standards – An Implementation Toolkit to strengthen outcomes and quality of life for adults living with schizophrenia acts as a guide for implementation of the Schizophrenia Quality Standards. By sharing key features, strategies, and real-life examples, this resource helps organizations implement these standards effectively and improve outcomes for individuals living with schizophrenia. This Toolkit was developed through the Schizophrenia Quality Standards National Demonstration Project in collaboration with Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences and the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Purpose

The purpose of this Toolkit is to enable organizations and healthcare providers to put implementation into action by supporting the national scale-up of the Standards and the delivery of evidence-based care. It provides guidance and strategies for change to those interested in reducing the variability of care for adults living with schizophrenia in their organizations and strengthen patient outcomes and quality of life. The Toolkit format is self-led, and users will have access to information and templates on the components required to get started with implementing measurement-based care and any quality statement(s) as part of the Standards.

Through its digital, interactive and accessible format, the Toolkit will ensure an increased understanding of the value of evidence-based care and the Standards, and an uptake of the implementation of the Standards across Canada.

Overall, the main goals are to raise awareness of the Schizophrenia Quality Standards, to put implementation into action, and to accelerate the delivery of evidence-based care.

Audience

This toolkit guide is meant for individuals who can influence, advocate for, or lead efforts to implement the Schizophrenia Quality Standards, to offer the highest quality care based on the evidence, and to reduce the variability of care for adults living with schizophrenia throughout Canada.

This guide can be used by:

Leaders and administrators, at the hospital or community level, who can influence changes to the way care is provided to people living with schizophrenia.

Clinicians and healthcare providers (e.g. physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists) and quality improvement leads, at the hospital or community level, who are seeking to improve the quality of care for adults living with schizophrenia.
