A CAT scan, also known as a CT scan, is a medical imaging procedure that uses X-rays to create detailed pictures of the inside of your body. During the scan, you lie on a table that slides into a large, donut-shaped machine. The machine takes many X-ray images from different angles, and a computer combines these images to produce a clear, cross-sectional view of your organs, bones, and tissues. Doctors use CT scans to diagnose and monitor various health conditions, such as tumors, infections, and internal injuries.
