Mental health refers to a person’s state of emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It influences thinking, behaviour and feelings. It affects the ability to handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is not the same as mental illness, but poor mental health can result in mental and/or physical illness. It’s possible to have a mental disorder and mental health at the same time. For example, if someone is being effectively treated for depression, they can also experience good mental health.
