Psychotherapy is a type of treatment where a person talks to a trained therapist to work through their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. The goal is to help the person understand and manage difficult emotions, reduce stress, and improve their overall mental well-being. It can involve talking about past experiences, current problems, or goals for the future. Psychotherapy is often used to treat mental health issues like depression, anxiety, or trauma, and it helps people develop healthy coping strategies to deal with life’s challenges. Psychotherapy is regulated in Ontario and Quebec. In July 2024, the government of British Columbia designated psychotherapy as a Health Profession under the Health Professions Act.
