Mental Health Commission of Canada lauds Bell Let’s Talk Day

From Mental Health Commission of Canada

Tweet, talk, and text. The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is encouraging all Canadians to join the conversation on Bell Let’s Talk Day.

The largest campaign of its kind in the world, Bell Let’s Talk Day raises awareness about the perils of stigma related to mental illness while raising money to support community mental health programs across the country. Stigma is one of the biggest roadblocks standing in the way of people who need help.

Today, for every text message or phone call Bell customers make, five cents goes straight toward a program that supports Canadians who are living with a mental health problem or illness. Not on a Bell network? No problem. Each #BellLetsTalk tweet and every viewing of the Bell Let’s Talk Day video on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Snapchat puts another nickel toward mental health programs in your community.

The MHCC continues to be a proud supporter of Bell Let’s Talk and has been privileged to join Bell Canada on a number of initiatives, including the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace and Mental Health First Aid programs, that are making a real difference in people’s lives.

The MHCC is especially proud that two members of our broader family, Manon Charbonneau, a longstanding MHCC board director, and Samuel Breau, our manager of communications and stakeholder relations, have been chosen as ambassadors for Bell Let’s Talk. Stigma’s damaging effects continue to decline because of the strength and courage of advocates like Manon and Samuel.

Proving that everyone can make a difference, Bell Let’s Talk is on the verge of surpassing the $100 million mark. And with 7.5 million people in Canada living with a mental health problem, today there are at least 7.5 million reasons to tweet, talk, and text.

There are no excuses. Bell Let’s Talk gives us all the power to be a mental health champion. Join the conversation or get more information about Bell Let’s Talk Day at bell.ca/letstalk.
