Suicide Prevention & Life Promotion in Schools: National Guide Webinar Series

Suicide Prevention & Life Promotion in Schools: A National Guide for System Leaders (the National Guide) was created through a partnership between the Mental Health Commission of Canada, School Mental Health Ontario, and We Matter to support school system leaders with the challenging work of implementing suicide prevention in their schools. In this six-part webinar series, the chapters of the guide are unpacked, and guest speakers enrich the material. The webinars were originally presented monthly from October 2025 to March 2026.

1. The first session of this webinar series focuses on Chapters 2 and 3 of the National Guide. It explores school mental health and suicide prevention and discusses conditions for effective suicide prevention and life promotion (originally aired October 31, 2025).

2. The second session of this webinar series focuses on Chapters 4 and 7 of the National Guide. It explores coordinated programming across the tiers of student mental health support and examines capacity building for effective suicide prevention and life promotion. It features a guest presentation by Dr. Cindy Finn, the director general of Lester B. Pearson School Board (originally aired November 25, 2025).

3. The third session of this webinar series focuses on Chapter 5 of the National Guide. It explores Indigenous youth suicide prevention and life promotion (originally aired December 4, 2025).

4. The fourth session of this webinar series focuses on Chapter 6 of the National Guide. It explores ways to support students who identify as 2SLGBTQQIA+ (originally aired January 20, 2026).

5. The fifth session of this webinar series focuses on Chapters 8 and 9 of the National Guide. It explores collaboration for suicide prevention and life promotion, and it discusses communicating progress related to suicide prevention and life promotion in school. It features guest speaker Melissa Graves, who supports the Roots of Hope community in the Halton region in Ontario (originally aired February 24, 2026).

6. The sixth and final session of this webinar series focuses on the voices and leadership of Indigenous youth. In this video, Indigenous youth share their experiences in the school system and discuss life promotion and suicide prevention, as well as their responses to the National Guide (originally aired March 11, 2026).
