Mental Health Week reminds us to promote and protect what’s most precious: mental health

From Mental Health Commission of Canada

This week, the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is proud to #GETLOUD in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CMHA) Mental Health Week. In 2019, CMHA is reminding us that every person has mental health – and we all have a role to play in strengthening the social supports for those in need.

Just like people are encouraged to exercise, prioritize sleep and eat right, we should all be taking those steps in concert with efforts to promote our mental wellbeing.  It’s also incumbent upon all of us to advocate for a recovery-oriented system of care, that puts people at the heart of services.

Building resiliency and fostering mental health among individuals means doing the same within our communities. From workplaces and post-secondary campuses that promote psychological health, to creating safety nets in cities and towns across the country, we all have a role to play. The MHCC is committed to continue working with governments to identify gaps and best practices we can replicate, so that mental health outcomes aren’t tied to your postal code or proximity to brick and mortar clinics.

We are proud of our partnership with CMHA, and with our strong working relationships across all jurisdictions. By working together, we can advance the shared priorities we hear from people with lived experience. This week, and every week, we encourage you to #GETLOUD, because there is no health without mental health.
